The programme aimed to create awareness about the growing health concerns related to obesity and to promote healthy lifestyle practices among students and staff.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Dr Sreejith M Nair, Principal ASPS. In his inaugural address, he emphasized the importance of maintaining a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and early prevention strategies to combat obesity and its associated complications such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases. He encouraged students to become health ambassadors in society by spreading awareness about preventive healthcare.
An informative and engaging awareness session was conducted by the Second Year BSc MLT students. The session highlighted the causes,types, risk factors, complications, preventive measures, and the importance of lifestyle modification in managing obesity. The students effectively communicated the scientific aspects in a simple and understandable manner, making the session highly interactive.As part of the programme, a drawing competition was organized to encourage creative expression on the theme of obesity awareness. Students actively participated and showcased meaningful illustrations emphasizing healthy living. A quiz competition was also conducted to assess and enhance participants’ knowledge regarding obesity, nutrition, and preventive health strategies.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Malavika KR, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology. She expressed her gratitude to the Principal, organizing committee, faculty members, and students for their wholehearted participation and support in making the event a success.
The World Obesity Day programme was a meaningful initiative that successfully promoted awareness and encouraged healthy lifestyle practices.
